All About ISO
Management system certification conducted by independent parties often becomes a criterion for operating in global markets. It confirms compliance with international standards, ethical business principles, and legal requirements, and can serve as a powerful incentive for the development and improvement of business processes.
The use of accredited certification procedures also contributes to the development of international trade and economic progress. The accreditation process standardises the competency criteria for certification bodies at the international level — an approach that has been widely adopted in many countries.
ISO forms a global network of national standards bodies. Membership in ISO means that national standards bodies participate in representing their country’s interests within ISO and in promoting ISO standards at the national level.

ISO 37301:2021 Certification
Compliance management is an international system of rules, guidelines, measures, and procedures that must be followed by all enterprises, regardless of their form of ownership. This set of standards is designed to ensure that an organisation operates in accordance with the laws and regulations established both at the national level and within the organisation itself. These standards are internationally recognised and must be adhered to worldwide — including in Europe, the USA, and CIS countries such as Kyrgyzstan, Georgia, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and others.
Key ISO standards in compliance management systems
The concept of compliance management originated as early as 1890 in the United States with the introduction of the first legislative acts regulating competition and prohibiting monopolies. Soon after, anti-corruption laws and corporate governance rules were also enacted.
In the 1990s, the first standards were introduced to help manage risks and compliance policies. By 2010, international standards were developed, forming the foundation of modern compliance.
The term "compliance" comes from the English word meaning "to conform" or "to comply." Therefore, the purpose of a compliance management system within an organisation is to ensure that internal policies align with laws, regulations, and standards.
Three key ISO standards regulating compliance management
- ISO 19600:2014 – The first standard titled “Compliance management systems – Guidelines.” In 2021, it was fully replaced by ISO 37301.
- ISO 37001:2016 – “Anti-Bribery Management Systems.” This standard is designed to regulate anti-corruption policies, ensure compliance across all company departments, and enable timely responses to identified violations.
- ISO 37301-2021 – «“Compliance Management Systems – Requirements with Guidance for Use.” This new standard completely replaced ISO 19600. It includes requirements for improving the effectiveness of compliance systems and managing associated risks.
The main goal of these compliance management standards is to regulate company operations, ensure adherence to legal frameworks, minimise the risk of violations, and protect both management and employees from legal liability.
ISO 37301 Compliance management system
Implementing the ISO 37301 compliance management system is a vital and responsible step for organisations aiming to enter international markets. In developing countries, ISO compliance is not yet widespread. However, enterprises that are subsidiaries of large foreign corporations or are considered investment targets have long been operating according to these principles.
For business units operating on international markets, compliance management is a key indicator of a reliable partner.
That’s why the implementation of a compliance management system is particularly relevant for CIS countries. This step not only helps attract international investors but also enhances the competitiveness of local organisations. It also increases trust and credibility, making the business more attractive to major partners.
Countries such as Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Georgia have recently shown great promise in terms of integration into global markets. Their governments are actively implementing anti-corruption principles, working to improve the business climate, and creating conditions favourable for attracting investment. Therefore, the adoption of the ISO 37301 compliance management system will foster a supportive environment for economic growth and help integrate international standards into the business strategies of organisations.
